Staying in Sierre

Sierre is renowned as the sunniest town in Switzerland. Nestled in the heart of the country’s largest vineyard, between Salgesch and the hillsides of Venthône, it has the laid-back pace of a small Valais town: markets, open cellars, terraces and the Château Mercier towering above the rooftops.

It’s also an excellent base: the funicular takes you up to Crans-Montana in about twelve minutes, the train speeds on to Zermatt or Leukerbad, and the Val d’Anniviers begins just outside the town. Our historic hotel, the Hôtel de la Poste, is right in the centre.

Wines and terroir

The wine trail links Sierre to Salgesch through the vineyards, with wine cellars and a wine museum at either end. In autumn, the villages on the hillside come alive with the grape harvest.

Between two mountains

In less than thirty minutes, you can be on the slopes at Crans-Montana or in the villages of the Val d’Anniviers. Sierre lets you ski at high altitude whilst staying in town, at more affordable prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a holiday rental cost in Sierre?

Why stay in Sierre rather than at a ski resort?

For the climate, the prices and the central location. Sierre is about a dozen minutes by funicular from Crans-Montana and lies at the entrance to the Val d’Anniviers: you can ski or go hiking at high altitude, then head back down to spend the night in a peaceful, sunny spot.

A historic house in the centre of Sierre, taken over by Heiwa Solution, featuring renovated rooms and studios. It has its own booking website, hotel-sierre.ch, which is linked to the same availability system as this page.

Are there good train connections to Sierre?

Yes, Sierre/Siders station is on the main Valais line: Lausanne and Geneva on one side, Visp, Zermatt and Brig on the other, with services running approximately every 30 minutes during the day.
